FAQ
Industrial Battery FAQs
Industrial batteries are heavy-duty energy storage units built to power equipment in demanding environments, forklifts, mining locomotives, standby power systems, and more. They work by converting chemical energy into electrical energy through electrochemical reactions between lead plates and a sulfuric acid electrolyte solution. Each battery is made up of individual cells housed in a steel case, linked together by battery bars and cables to deliver the voltage and amperage your equipment needs.
We supply lead-acid flooded batteries, CEIL Motive Power batteries, CEIL Plante Standby batteries, and CEIL Mining Locomotive batteries. For electric forklifts and warehouse equipment, lead-acid flooded batteries are the most common choice. If you need standby or backup power, Plante-style batteries are the go-to. We'll help you match the right type to your exact application.
Industrial batteries power operations across warehousing and logistics, manufacturing, mining, construction, utilities, and aviation ground support. Essentially, any industry running electric lift trucks, pallet jacks, aerial work platforms, or backup power systems relies on industrial batteries to keep things moving.
Forklift batteries are deep-cycle batteries engineered to be discharged and recharged hundreds of times without degrading, regular automotive batteries aren't built for this. They would fail quickly under the same conditions. Forklift batteries are also physically much larger, operate at specific voltages (24V, 36V, 48V, 72V, 80V), often serve as a counterweight in the machine itself, and require dedicated charging equipment and regular maintenance like watering.
A traction or motive-power battery is specifically designed to propel electrically-driven vehicles and equipment, forklifts, pallet trucks, airport ground support vehicles, and mining locomotives. They're built to deliver sustained, reliable power through repeated charge/discharge cycles under heavy loads. Our CEIL Motive Power batteries fall into this category and are a trusted choice for high-demand industrial operations.
Battery Products & Types FAQs
We supply new forklift batteries (24V through 80V), lead-acid flooded batteries, CEIL Motive Power batteries, CEIL Plante Standby batteries, and CEIL Mining Locomotive batteries. We also offer battery pack rebuilds and regenerated batteries as cost-effective alternatives to purchasing new ones. Our range covers any electric forklift and ground support equipment power requirement, regardless of brand.
Lead-acid flooded batteries are the workhorse for industrial equipment, forklifts, pallet jacks, aerial work platforms, and electric ground support equipment. They're cost-effective, time-tested, and highly reliable when properly maintained. They require periodic watering and consistent charging discipline, but with the right upkeep, they deliver excellent performance and a long service life.
Our core product range focuses on lead-acid flooded batteries and the CEIL battery lines, which are the proven, industry-standard choice for most Ontario industrial operations. If you have specific requirements, contact us directly at +1 (942) 388-4288, and we'll discuss the best option for your situation.
The right capacity depends on your equipment's voltage requirement (24V, 36V, 48V, 72V, or 80V), the weight it handles, and your shift length. A single-shift operation has very different needs from a 24/7 multi-shift warehouse. Our team will assess your setup and recommend the correct AH (amp-hour) capacity to get you through your operational hours without over-discharging, one of the leading causes of early battery failure.
Yes. Not every operation fits a standard off-the-shelf spec, and we understand that. Our team works with you to understand your equipment, usage patterns, and environment, then recommends a tailored solution, whether that's a specific battery configuration, a rebuild into your existing steel tray, or a custom charger pairing. Contact us, and we'll work it out together.
Battery Chargers & Accessories FAQs
We carry high-frequency chargers and Smart Derivative chargers, both sourced from our specialized Italian-manufactured charger range. High-frequency chargers are energy-efficient and reduce heat during charging. Smart Derivative chargers adapt the charge profile based on battery condition. We also carry out charger repair services if your existing unit needs attention.
Industrial chargers convert AC mains power into the DC needed to recharge your battery. A proper industrial charger delivers the correct voltage and current for your specific battery type and capacity, then tapers off as the battery reaches full charge. Using the wrong charger, or an undersized one, is a leading cause of premature battery failure. We'll make sure you have the right charger matched to your battery.
The essentials are a properly matched charger, a battery watering system or watering gun, and battery monitoring equipment for larger fleets. We also supply Anderson plug repair parts, battery trays, lead replacements, and thimbles. Think of it as a complete ecosystem, the battery performs best when every supporting component is in good shape.
Lead-acid batteries consume water during charging, electrolyte levels drop over time, and if the plates become exposed, the battery is permanently damaged. A battery watering system or watering gun makes it fast and safe to top up water levels to the correct point without risk of overfilling or spilling acid. It's a simple accessory that can significantly extend battery life. We supply watering kits and guns, ask us for a quote.
Battery monitoring gives you real-time data on state of charge, temperature, voltage, and discharge depth. With this, operators stop guessing and start making decisions based on actual battery condition. You'll avoid over-discharging (one of the biggest killers of battery life), catch issues early before they become failures, and manage your fleet's charging rotation more efficiently. Our technicians can advise on the right monitoring solution for your operation.
Battery Maintenance & Care FAQs
The biggest factors are: don't over-discharge (bring batteries in for charging before they're fully depleted), water regularly (check levels weekly or after every five charges), use the correct charger, let the battery fully cool before putting it back in service, and keep connections clean and corrosion-free. Consistency matters more than anything, batteries that are neglected even briefly can deteriorate quickly and unevenly.
Regular maintenance involves checking and topping up water levels with distilled water, cleaning terminals and connectors, inspecting cables for damage, checking for corrosion around the tray and terminals, and ensuring your charger is functioning correctly. Periodic discharge testing helps you track actual capacity versus rated capacity. We provide comprehensive maintenance services, both on-site visits and scheduled programs, so you don't have to manage it alone.
For most industrial lead-acid batteries in regular use, check water levels after every five charging cycles, or at a minimum once a week. Never top up water before charging, always do it after a full charge. Over-watering and under-watering are both damaging. Use only distilled or deionized water, never tap water. A battery watering gun or system makes this process clean, quick, and accurate.
Watch for: shortened runtime (your equipment isn't lasting through a full shift the way it used to), the battery running hotter than normal during charging, visible corrosion or acid deposits around terminals and the tray, swollen or cracked cell casings, a noticeable drop in charging acceptance, or the charger failing to complete a charge cycle. Any of these is a signal to call us before a minor issue becomes a full battery failure.
The most common culprits are over-discharging (running the battery flat repeatedly), infrequent or improper watering, using the wrong charger, opportunity charging (topping up a partial charge instead of completing full cycles), temperature extremes, and general neglect over time. Sulphation, the buildup of lead sulphate crystals on the plates, is the most common failure mechanism and is largely preventable with good maintenance habits.
Forklift Battery Services FAQs
Yes, it's one of our core services. We repair forklift batteries of any size and make. Our repairs cover battery cell replacements, acid adjustments, link repairs (bolt-on and burn-on), Anderson plug repairs, corrosion cleaning, battery tray repair and supply, positive and negative lead repairs, take-off repairs, and full battery strip-and-rebuilds. If the battery hasn't reached the end of its service life, we fix it, and we're fast about it.
Over time, sulphate crystals build up on the lead plates inside each cell, reducing capacity and runtime. Our regeneration process uses a controlled series of charging, discharging, and cooling cycles to break down those crystals and restore lost capacity. The process takes 2–5 business days, depending on the battery's condition. Every regenerated battery comes with a comprehensive CEIL discharge report and our exclusive 12-month warranty. And if we can't restore charge to your battery, you don't pay, that's our No Fix, No Charge guarantee.
A battery pack rebuild is where we replace the internal cells of your existing forklift battery while reusing your original steel battery tray. We collect your battery, strip out the old cells, acid-clean and repaint the steel tray, then build a brand-new battery pack back into it. The result is a like-new battery delivered back to your site within 2–3 business days, backed by our 5-year full replacement warranty. It's significantly more cost-effective than buying an entirely new battery.
In many cases, yes. If the battery hasn't reached the end of its service life, regeneration or a targeted repair is a cost-effective alternative to replacement. If the cells are beyond saving but the steel tray is sound, a pack rebuild gets you a new battery at a fraction of the cost of a completely new unit. We assess each battery on its own merits and give you an honest recommendation, we won't push a full replacement if a repair will do the job.
As a general rule, forklift batteries should be checked monthly at a minimum, water levels topped up, connections inspected, and any corrosion cleaned off. A more thorough service, including discharge testing and acid checks, should happen at least every six months, or more frequently in high-usage, multi-shift environments. We offer preventative maintenance programs so you're never caught off guard. Call us to set one up.
Installation & Technical Support FAQs
Yes. Our trained battery technicians come to your facility to handle installation, ensuring the battery is correctly fitted, connected, and tested before we leave. This is particularly important for larger operations with specific equipment configurations. Call us at +1 (942) 388-4288 to arrange a site visit.
Absolutely. We dispatch technicians to your site across the GTA and Ontario. They'll run detailed battery testing, produce discharge reports, and identify exactly what's causing the problem, whether it's a cell fault, a connection issue, charger incompatibility, or something else. You get a clear diagnosis and a straight answer on the most cost-effective path forward.
Our technicians use professional-grade discharge testing equipment and produce comprehensive CEIL battery discharge reports. This gives a detailed picture of each cell's condition, actual capacity versus rated capacity, and any anomalies in the battery's behaviour. It's the same standard of testing we apply to all regenerated batteries before they leave our facility.
Yes. Rather than waiting for a battery to fail, and dealing with the downtime and cost that follows, we set up scheduled maintenance programs tailored to your fleet and operating hours. Regular visits from our technicians keep batteries properly watered, connections clean, and any emerging issues caught early. Contact us to discuss a program that fits your operation.
Battery Lifespan & Performance FAQs
A well-maintained industrial forklift battery typically lasts 1,500–1,800 charge cycles, which usually translates to 5–7 years in normal single-shift use. In multi-shift operations with higher cycling rates, that timeframe compresses. Poor maintenance, frequent over-discharging, or improper charging can cut the lifespan dramatically. Our 5-year warranty on new and rebuilt batteries reflects the confidence we have in the quality we supply.
High-quality industrial forklift batteries are rated for 1,500–1,800 full charge/discharge cycles. That number depends heavily on how well the battery is maintained. Batteries that are regularly over-discharged, infrequently watered, or charged with mismatched equipment may reach end-of-life well before that figure. Following proper maintenance practices maximizes every cycle you get out of the battery.
Significantly. Using an undersized or mismatched charger, opportunity charging (partial top-ups instead of full cycles), or charging too frequently at partial discharge all contribute to sulphation buildup and uneven cell wear. Overcharging generates excessive heat and boils off electrolyte. The right charger, matched to your battery's voltage and AH capacity, is one of the most important investments you can make in battery longevity.
When sulphate crystals build up on the lead plates, your battery loses capacity and doesn't hold a charge the way it used to. Regeneration breaks down those crystals through controlled charge/discharge cycling, restoring the capacity that's been lost. The result is longer runtime per charge and an extended overall service life, typically at less than half the cost of a new battery. It's most effective on batteries between 0 and 7 years old.
